Nepal Government to Meet Political Parties and Gen Z Ahead of March 5 Elections
The Nepal government, tasked with holding the House of Representatives elections on March 5, has announced a joint meeting with political parties and representatives of Generation Z.
According to Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, the meeting is scheduled for 4:00 pm Wednesday at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.
It will mark the first formal dialogue between political parties and Gen Z leaders since the September 8–9 protests, which toppled the previous government, dissolved the House of Representatives, and installed the current interim administration.
Kharel, also the government’s Spokesperson said the government has been intensely preparing for the upcoming elections, holding discussions with multiple stakeholders, including political parties and youth representatives.
A week ago, Prime Minister Sushila Karki convened seven political parties, who expressed general support for the elections but raised concerns over security arrangements for the democratic exercise.
The government expects the upcoming meeting to create an environment conducive to free and fair parliamentary elections, while ensuring all parties’ voices are heard.
The Election Commission has also been consulted as part of the preparations.
“Our teams are working across all fronts to intensify election preparations,” Kharel added, underscoring the government’s commitment to a transparent and well-managed electoral process.
