Budhi Gandaki Flood Triggers Urgent Rescue

Flash floods in the Budhi Gandaki River have swept away a bridge and inundated homes in Gorkha’s Chumnubri Rural Municipality, prompting urgent rescue and evacuation operations. Security forces and helicopters have been mobilized as river levels continue to rise. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable riverside settlements to move to safer locations amid the growing threat of flooding.
According to Home Minister Sudhan Gurung the bridge connecting Nyakchet and Philim Bazaar in Chumnubri-3 has been swept away, while muddy floodwater has entered several houses in Ghattekhola.
Nepal Police, Armed Police Force personnel and helicopters have been mobilized for rescue, relief and evacuation operations.
According to the the Nepal Army more than 35 people have been rescued from Jagat, Nyakphedi, Yaru and Payu, including an infant and a foreign national. Search and rescue operations are continuing.
According to Prime Minister Balendra Shah six people were airlifted from the landslide-risk area of Jagat, while a Composite Quick Reaction Team from Kathmandu has been deployed to the affected area.
Authorities have urged residents along the Budhi Gandaki River, particularly in Sirdibas, Jagat, Salleri, Kholabesi, Machhakhola, Soti, Arkhet and Arughat, to move to safer locations.
Through facebook post PM Shah have urged people in need of emergency assistance to contact the ambulance service at 102, the District Emergency Operations Centre at 1234, Gorkha Police at 9856061190, or the Assistant Chief District Officer at 9856057778.
As rescue operations continue, the immediate priority remains safeguarding lives, as rising floodwaters pose a growing threat to communities along the Budhi Gandaki River.
