Pillar of Dodhara-Chandani Suspension Bridge Collapses, Traffic Halted

A pillar of the Dodhara-Chandani suspension bridge over the Mahakali Rover here has broken down this morning. Movement of people and vehicles has been stopped after one of the pillars of the bridge connecting Bhimdatta Municipality and Dodhara–Chandani Municipality broke, informed Tek Bahadur Rawat, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Kanchanpur. Around six meters of the bridge need to be repaired.

With traffic halted, people are facing difficulties in commuting. District Police Spokesperson Rawat said, “Five to six metres of the bridge towards Dodhara side has risen causing problem in traffic movement, and a pillar of the bridge has broken, blocking the passage through it. Right now, a police team has been deployed in that area.”

The iconic suspension bridge built two decades ago directly connecting Dodhara–Chandani to the mainland of the country. Ram Bahadur Bohara, the ward chairperson of Bhimdattanagar Municipality-13, said that a technical team would visit the site to inspect the bridge.

“This morning, the pillar was broken by the force of water, and traffic along the bridge has been stopped after the pillar collapsed,” Bohara said. (RSS)
