Tripureshwor Bus Fire Incident: Deceased Driver Identified

The driver who died from fire set on a bus in Tripureshwor of Kathmandu on Monday has been identified. District Police Range, Kathmandu’s Chief, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dilip Ghimire, confirmed that Arjun Dong Tamang, who was severely injured in the fire involving the public bus (Ba 5 Kha 4274) operated by the Riddhisiddhi Yatayat (Travels), breathed his last at Kirtipur-based Burn Hospital.

The incident took place near the Tripureshwor Bus Stop. Tamang himself reportedly set the bus on fire. Tamang was originally from Sisneri of Indra Sarobar Rural Municipality of Makwanpur district. During the investigation, it has been revealed that he had previously been involved in a bus accident in Balaju, Kathmandu, last year, in which three people were injured.

Tamang had been absconding in connection with the case and had reportedly used a driving license issued in the name of Sunil Tamang at the time. Three months ago, Tamang was also involved in an incident in the Mulpani area of Kathmandu in which he allegedly misbehaved with traffic police.

It had been found that at that time, he was using a driving license bearing the name of Dawa Tamang. During the Tripureshwor incident, he was carrying a driving license issued in the name of Dawa Lama, police said.

Further investigation has found that Tamang had also been using bank accounts and citizenship documents bearing the name of Dawa Lama. Police are investing how he gained access to and used official documents issued in the names of other individuals. (RSS)
