Government Proposes Six-month Paid Maternity Leave for Mothers

The government has proposed for the arrangement of at least six months of paid maternity leave for mothers and a 42-day of paid paternity care leave for fathers.

Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Sobita Gautam, shared that this provisions has been proposed in the bill prepared for the amendment of Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Act, 2075.

Taking a social platform today, Minister Gautam mentioned that the bill would be taken to the cabinet and tabled in the parliament subsequently. She underlined that helping the parents to provide adequate time for the infant and family is the responsibility of the state at a time when most of the families are limited to one or two children due to changing lifestyle and work pressure.

Underlining that though a process of giving birth to a child is connected with a mother, the responsibility of raising the child does not rest solely with her, Minister Gautam stressed that parenting is a shared responsibility. (RSS)
