RSP President Recalls Gen Z Movement as Spontaneous Awakening for Transformation

President of the ruling party, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has said time has brought the party into position of responding each question raised by the Gen Z population. Issuing a press statement on the first Gen Z Shahid Diwas (the first anniversary of the Gen Z movement martyrs) today, he said the movement was not held at the call of any particular political party.

“Time has brought us to a point where we have to answer every question that the youth had raised from the streets. It has also reminded us that tomorrow, someone else will be there to demand answers from us,” he said.

Stating that the Gen Z movement was totally a spontaneous awakening of youths, he said no political party or leader should dare to interpret and use it as a means of securing parochial political gains.

Recalling that exactly one year ago on this day, a new political awakening emerged in Nepali history, he said, the Gen Z groups in the country had taken to the streets peacefully but with firm determination against the frustration over years of entrenched corruption, party division, institutional incompetence, control over citizens’ fundamental rights, and lack of opportunities,” he said. “It was indeed painful for us, who established the party without shedding a single drop of blood to witness young generation drenched in blood simply for speaking the voices for change. May what had happened in the history on September 8-9 never repeat.”

He further wished that may no mother ever lose her child fighting for changes in the nation, he extended his tributes to all those youths who attained martyrdom while voicing for civil rights, the rule of law and a corruption-free society.

Paying his respect to those who were injured and suffered psychological trauma during the movement, the RSP President expressed his hope that the State would fulfill its responsibilities by providing proper care to the affected families, ensuring comprehensive treatment to the injured and facilitating their long-term rehabilitation.

He asserted that everyone should unite in this historic journey to transform public anger into a force for nation building by preventing the arrival of conditions that fuel frustration and despair among the mass psychology. “I reaffirm my firm commitments that we will not deviate even an inch from the path of rule of law, equitable prosperity and national dignity charted by that storm of awakening,” he said.
