Nepal Awarded for Accomplishment in Sustaining MNT Elimination

The Regional Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia has recognised Nepal’s success in sustaining the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) since a decade.

Nepal was awarded for its outstanding success in sustaining the MNT elimination during the 79th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia underway at Dili of Timor Leste.

Tetanus is a serious disease caused by bacterial infection. A three-member delegation from Nepal, led by Additional Secretary Dr Sangita Kaushal Mishra, is attending the meeting.

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus handed over the certificate of recognistion to the head of the Nepali delegation, Dr. Mishra, the Ministry of Health and Population said.

The WHO has said that Nepal has significantly contributed to the accomplishments in sustaining the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus in the South-East Asia region. (RSS)
