Two Rescued Alive From Trishuli Hydropower Tunnel as Search Continues for Others

Rescue teams have pulled two people alive from the tunnel of the Trishuli-3A hydropower project, marking a major breakthrough in efforts to reach workers trapped following the Bhotekoshi floods.

Police identified those rescued as Sanjay Sah, a mechanical foreman, and Kabir Maharjan, a mechanical supervisor working at the project.

Both men were taken for preliminary medical examinations after being brought out of the tunnel.

The rescue operation is continuing amid indications that other people may still be alive inside. Officials have not yet confirmed how many people remain trapped or their condition.

Rescue teams are working to establish contact with those inside and are sending oxygen into the tunnel as operations continue. Reports that rescuers may have heard the voices of one or more people inside have raised hopes of further rescues, although the situation inside the tunnel remains unclear.

Many are feared trapped after flooding affected the hydropower project, but authorities have yet to provide a confirmed figure for the number of people still inside the tunnel.

The successful rescue of the two workers, days after the flooding, has given new momentum to the search as teams continue efforts to reach others who may remain trapped.
