Rescue Team Intensifies Work at Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project Site

A rescue team has intensified search for those missing at the Rasuwagadhi Hydroelectricity Project site following the devastating flash flood in the Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa on August 26.

Ninety-three people working at the 111-megawatts-capacity hydel project are unaccounted for after the disaster. Work such as recon by a technical and expert team is being carried out from a Nepal Army helicopter at the project site, according to the private secretariat of Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha.

According to the Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN), 93 people have gone missing at the Rasuwagadhi hydropower project. IPPAN stated that 49 employees of Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Company are missing. Two are daily wage workers.

Among those involved in construction, 35 from the Sherpa Hydro Construction workers are missing. Four from CWE and three from Bhanas Construction are also missing. Out of the six people trapped in the underground descender, four managed to get out on their own after two days, and they were rescued by a military helicopter. (RSS)
