International Day of Remembrance & Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism Being Observed

The International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism is observed today to honor victims and promote their rights.

The International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017 and is observed every year on 21 August.

According to the United Nations, the day is dedicated to honoring and supporting victims and survivors of terrorism, raising awareness about their needs, and promoting the protection of their human rights and fundamental freedoms.

This year’s theme “Healing through Memory” highlights how preserving victims’ stories and honouring those who have been lost can uphold dignity, foster recognition and inspire hope, the UN noted.

“It also emphasises the importance of ensuring that remembrance – including in digital spaces – is respectful, victim-centred and trauma-informed,” it said. (RSS)
