North Korea Commemorates 81 Years of Liberation

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, accompanied by his daughter Kim Ju Ae and wife Ri Sol Ju, paid tribute at the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery in Pyongyang on August 14, marking the 81st anniversary of the end of World War II.

Kim and his family laid flowers and paid respects to revolutionary martyrs ahead of North Korea’s Liberation Day on August 15, which commemorates Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule in 1945.

State media said the visit honored those who fought for national liberation and highlighted the country’s efforts to preserve their legacy.

The anniversary is one of North Korea’s major national occasions and is marked with ceremonies and commemorative events across the country.
