India Marks 80th Independence Day
India is marking its 80th Independence Day today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the nation from the Red Fort in New Delhi.
Modi addressed the special ceremony held at the historic Red Fort this morning, calling on citizens to move forward with renewed enthusiasm, goals and resolve.
He said Independence Day serves as an inspiration for India to pursue new national objectives and commitments.
India gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947.
The day is commemorated annually with celebrations across the country, as well as at Indian diplomatic missions around the world.
The address marked Modi’s 13th Independence Day speech from the Red Fort since becoming prime minister and his first during his third term in office.
