Government Forms Probe Committee into Ganesh Nepali’s Self-immolation

The government has formed a judicial probe committee to investigate the self-immolation case of Ganesh Nepali, a permanent resident of Soru Rural Municipality, Mugu District.
A cabinet meeting held on Wednesday at the Prime Minister Office and Council of the Ministers decided to form the committee under the leadeship of former High Court Justice Keshab Prasad Bastola.
Former Associate Attorney general Krishnamohan Koirala and former Joint Secretary Ramuraj Kadariya have been appointed as members. The government has directed the committee to submit its report within seven days.
Nepali died on Ashadh 26 while undergoing treatment at the Burn Unit of Bir Hospital after sustaining self immolation. Following his death, the government, Kathmandu metropolitan city and the victim’s family reached a nine-point agreement.
One of the key provisions of the agreement was to conduct a fair and impartial investigation into the incident.
