Landslides Block Major Highways

Nine main highways across the country have been obstructed by landslides and flooding triggered by incessant rainfall. The Nepal Police reports that several road sections in the Koshi and Bagmati provinces are either completely or partially impassable.

For instance, the Mid-Hills Highway in Bhojpur municipality-5, Bokhim, is currently open for one-way traffic due to flooding.

The Mechi Highway is entirely blocked by landslides at Rajduwali of Ilam and at Khobare Khola of Yangwarak rural municipality-1 in Panchthar district.

Additionally, the Diktel-Bhojpur road section of Mid Hill Highway in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-6 Matekhola has also been fully closed due to landslides, according to police reports.

In Bagmati Province, the BP highway has been temporarily halted due to potential flooding, and traffic on the Kathmandu-Hetauda Kanti Highway has been suspended until further notice because of the risk of flooding and landslides.

The Nepal Police also noted that the Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-4 in Sindhupalchok, along with the Jurikhola and Arani highways in Kodari, are completely blocked by landslides.

Meanwhile, one-way traffic is being managed on the Pasanglhamu road section at Bokrejhunda in Gosainkunda rural municipality-6 of Rasuwa.

The Prithvi Highway at Phisling in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3 of Chitwan is also fully blocked due to landslides.

In the Benighat Rorang rural municipality-10 Tismarkhani area of Dhading, the Prithvi Highway is operating in one direction, but the road at Jawangkhola is completely closed.

Authorities have warned that the risk of landslides and floods persists due to ongoing rains, urging the public to check the latest road conditions with relevant agencies before setting out on their journeys. (RSS)
