Nepal Marks International Deafblind Day With Call for Greater Inclusion

People with deafblindness in Nepal marked the second International Deafblind Day on Friday, calling for stronger recognition of their rights, greater accessibility and inclusive development.
A rally was held in Kathmandu, beginning at Shanti Batika and passing through Jamal and Tridevi before returning to the park.
Participants urged authorities and society to improve access to information, mobility, communication and social participation for people living with combined hearing and vision loss.
Organisers said the day aims to raise awareness of deafblindness as a distinct disability, promote equal rights and strengthen cooperation among governments, organisations and communities to improve the quality of life of people with deafblindness.
The United Nations General Assembly designated June 27 as International Deafblind Day during its 79th session in 2025, and the observance is now marked annually around the world, including in Nepal.
