Over 400 Arrested as PSG Champions League Celebrations Turn Violent in France

More than 400 people were arrested across France following violent clashes between football fans and police after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured victory in the UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal.

Thousands of security personnel were deployed in Paris and other cities as authorities attempted to contain unrest that disrupted bus, train and rail services in the French capital.

Celebrations quickly escalated into violence, with fireworks and flares set off in several areas. Police used tear gas to disperse crowds gathered in central Paris, while several officers were reported injured during the clashes.

Footage circulating on social media showed electric bikes set on fire, flares lighting up the streets and revellers damaging property, including smashing the glass of at least one shopfront.

Large crowds gathered along the Champs-Élysées shortly after PSG secured the title in a penalty shootout. Earlier, police had already clashed with supporters gathered at the club’s Parc des Princes stadium, where giant screens had been installed for fans to watch the final.

According to police, at least six vehicles, two businesses and a bus shelter were damaged during the unrest.

The incident marks the second consecutive year of football-related violence in France following a major PSG victory. Similar celebrations after the club’s 2025 triumph had also turned deadly. Agency
