Nepal Will Adopt Balanced & Pragmatic Foreign Policy: PM Shah

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has told European diplomats that his government is committed to genuinely and visibly improving the living standards of Nepali citizens.

During a joint meeting today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers with ambassadors from the European Union (EU) and its member states based in Kathmandu and New Delhi, as well as other foreign ambassadors in Kathmandu, PM Shah emphasized the urgency of the present moment and acknowledged the profound responsibility entrusted to his leadership.

According to Prime Minister Shah’s press advisor, Deepa Dahal, Shah clarified that the recent election results in Nepal have provided a clear and decisive mandate for good governance and inclusive economic prosperity. PM Shah assured that despite the formation of a new government, policy continuity will be maintained.

Prime Minister Shah said, “Being new does not mean being completely detached from the past. By ensuring that Nepal’s policy direction remains clear, stable, and predictable, we are fully committed to safeguarding democratic values and maintaining political stability.”

The PM reiterated his government’s commitment to good governance and inclusive economic growth. He explained that the government aims to create new opportunities for the people by benefiting from the global market, simplifying processes to attract large-scale investment, encouraging innovation, and achieving sustainable development.

Shah also made it clear that Nepal will continue to pursue a balanced and pragmatic foreign policy. “Our relations with neighbors, development partners, and friendly nations are guided by principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, and shared prosperity,” he said.

Expressing gratitude to all development partners and friendly nations for their continued goodwill and support toward Nepal’s development and prosperity, he highlighted Nepal’s efforts to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, green energy, climate, tourism, and other key sectors.

At the meeting, PM Shah stressed that while conflicts across different parts of the world continue to affect ordinary citizens most severely, peace must be prioritized through dialogue, diplomacy, and international law rather than military confrontation.
