537 Workers Missing From Nine Hydropower Projects After Flood

As many as 537 employees and workers from nine hydropower projects remain unaccounted for following flooding in the Bhotekoshi River, according to the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN).

According to IPPAN, 898 employees and workers at nine hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot were initially reported missing.

Of them, 361 have been rescued.

At the 216-megawatt Upper Trishuli 1 Hydropower Project, 576 people were reported missing, of whom 254 have been rescued.

Around 300 workers and employees are still believed to be trapped inside a tunnel at the project.

A search operation is currently underway inside the tunnel.

Similarly, 93 people remain unaccounted for at the 111-megawatt Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project.

IPPAN said four people are missing from the Rasuwa Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project.

At the Langtang Khola Hydropower Project, 42 people were reported missing, of whom 18 have been rescued so far.

Eight people remain unaccounted for at Chilime Hydropower, while seven are missing from Mailung Khola Hydropower.

One person is missing from the Trishuli Hydropower Project, and one from the Devighat Hydropower Project.

Forty-two people are missing from the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project.

At the Upper Trishuli 3B Hydropower Project, 122 people were reported missing, of whom 91 have been rescued alive.

Two people are missing from the Middle Trishuli Ganga Hydropower Project.
