Weather Alert Remains in Place: More Rain Predicted

Over the next 24 hours, Nepal and India will experience significant weather due to Cyclone Montha, which has moved inland from the Bay of Bengal, along with a separate low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea. 

The nationwide weather alert issued by the country’s Meteorological Forecasting Division remains in place on Thursday as well, with moderate and continuous rainfall predicted for the day.

The authority, on Wednesday, had issued a nationwide alert as Cyclone Montha, which developed over the Bay of Bengal, had begun influencing the country’s weather patterns with heavy snowfall and rain across several provinces.

Travelers and trekkers who have been enjoying the holidays and autumn season so far, have been advised to monitor local advisories, especially in the high hilly areas of Nepal.

For those in Kathmandu, expect cloudy skies with comfortable daytime temperatures, but keep an umbrella handy if you’re heading into the hills.

The division’s morning weather bulletin states that, with overcast skies, light rainfall has been occurring in the federal capital since early this morning.

The Division has predicted the weather to remain mostly cloudy in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, along with hilly regions of the country, and generally cloudy in the Tarai region.

There are chances of moderate rainfall at many places in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces, and at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces. Light rainfall is likely at a few places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Furthermore, moderate snowfall is likely in some places in the high, hilly, and mountainous regions of the country.

The country is currently under the influence of westerly winds, the partial impact of the cyclone Montha developed in the Bay of Bengal, along with the low-pressure system in the Arab Sea, adds to the Division.
