UN Chief Guterres meets Nepal’s President Paudel in Doha

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel in Doha on the sidelines of the Second World Summit for Social Development, where they discussed social justice, peace, and sustainable development.
According to President Paudel’s press advisor Kiran Pokharel, the talks focused on implementing the Copenhagen Commitments and advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

President Paudel said Nepal was committed to working closely with the UN to promote peace, social development, and good governance. He also noted that general elections are set for March 5, following the dissolution of the House of Representatives, and pledged they would be free and impartial.
The president urged greater international support for climate adaptation and mitigation, saying Nepal suffers disproportionately from global warming despite contributing little to carbon emissions.
Guterres commended Nepal’s commitment to sustainable development and pledged continued UN cooperation.
