Trump Meets Korean President in Seoul: To Meet China’s Xi for Trade Talks
US President Donald Trump met Wednesday with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Seoul to discuss trade, security, and regional cooperation as part of his ongoing five-day Asia trip.
On Thursday, Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the APEC Summit, a highly anticipated discussion expected to focus on trade and global economic issues.
During his meeting with President Lee, Trump received South Korea’s highest honor, the Grand Order of Mugunghwa, awarded in recognition of his efforts to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula becoming the first American leader to receive the honour.
Earlier reports had suggested a possible meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but Trump confirmed that it would not occur on this trip, despite previously indicating he was open to such a meeting.
All eyes are now on his upcoming meeting with Xi Jinping at the APEC Summit on Thursday local time, where the leaders are expected to discuss a potential trade deal with far-reaching global economic implications. (Agencies)
