Students Mark World Social Work Day 2026 with Policy Dialogue

Nepal marked World Social Work Day 2026 with the theme “Co-Building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society”. On this occasion, Kathmandu Model College (KMC) has concluded its month-long series of social activities on Tuesday with a grand ceremony and a policy dialogue session. BA second-year students studying psychology and social work organized the event
The dialogue, titled “Promoting Social Harmony, Unity, and Inclusive Society” was held with experts from social work fields. They emphasized that social service should not be limited to organizational projects; instead, it should be implemented from micro to macro level, as well as from nano to major levels within society.
The event was organized by KMC in collaboration with the Conflict, Peace, and Development Studies (CPDS) Department under Tribhuvan University, and supported by UDWS Nepal, Child Nepal, Hami Dajubhai, Swatantrata Abhiyan Nepal, and Yuwalaya.

College Chief Surendra Subedi said that practical and applied skills are equally important in students lives and they should be aware that education is a powerful method for positively changing society. Addressing the ceremony, Subedi said, “Society is constantly changing, and students are the catalyst of that change. This event helps students understand ground realities and identify ways to address societal challenges.”
Dhurba Prasad Timalsina, Head of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell at KMC, added that such type of celebrations are not merely formalities but serve as a means of sensitizing stakeholders to take further action and participate in policy formulation to ensure proper constitutional rights to inclusivity, social harmony, equality and equity.
Notable speakers shared their views on social unity, harmony and the need for relevant efforts toward societal change. These dialogues can enhance students’ understanding of societal issues and provide direction for addressing them, stated Alish Raj Rajopadhyaya, Program Head (BA & BBS) at KMC.
According to Amitraj Shrestha, Head of the Social Work Department of the College, the program brought multiple experts to discuss how youths can contribute to promoting social harmony, equality and equity in the society.
The day-long event also featured record-holder mountaineer and photojournalist Purnima Shrestha, who shared her thrilling experiences from her expeditions, including five ascents of Mt. Everest.

More than 200 students were participated in the program and actively engaged in month-long activities.
