Rasuwa Floods: 626 dead, More than 2,400 Missing

At least 626 people have died and 2,426 remain missing following the devastating Bhotekoshi River floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district and surrounding areas, according to the latest update from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

The authority’s update, issued on Saturday morning, said the deaths have been recorded across several districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Nawalparasi, Tanahun and Chitwan.Of those reported missing, the list includes Nepali security personnel, government officials, local residents, foreign nationals and Nepali citizens travelling abroad.

The authority also reported 109 injured people receiving treatment in hospitals, with surgical medical teams deployed.

“Search, rescue and relief operations are continuing,” the authority said in its latest situation update, adding that thousands of security personnel have been mobilised.Authorities said 4,441 people have so far been rescued, including people evacuated by helicopter. The disaster has also damaged 198 telephone towers, although 145 have since been restored.
