Rasuwa Flood: 1,344 Bodies Recovered, Search and Rescue Efforts Ongoing

In the aftermath of the catastrophic flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26, a total of 1,344 bodies have been recovered to date, while 4,898 individuals remain unaccounted for.

The Police Headquarters has released the latest information, revealing that among the deceased, there are 52 children, 33 girls, 269 women, 489 men, and 501 bodies that have yet to be identified, as reported by Spokesperson Kafle. He further mentioned that 4,898 individuals are still unreachable.

DIG Kafle detailed that among the missing, there are 2,448 locals, 482 women, and 1,350 individuals who have been contacted via phone, in addition to 274 men and 344 women who are foreign nationals.

The police have confirmed that search and rescue operations are actively ongoing in the flood-affected regions. Of the bodies recovered, 1,300 have been respectfully buried, while efforts to identify and manage the remaining bodies are still in progress. So far, 8,631 individuals have been rescued from the flood, with 3,655 currently housed in a holding centre.

Furthermore, DNA samples have been collected from 1,260 deceased individuals and 972 relatives to aid in identification. The police have emphasized that the collection of DNA samples for the purpose of identifying the missing and deceased is of paramount importance.

The Bhotekoshi flood has resulted in significant loss of life, and security agencies, including the Nepal Police and other governmental organizations, are engaged in the search, rescue, and management of the bodies of those who have gone missing due to this disaster. (RSS)
