Pakistan Beats Netherlands in T20 World Cup Opener

In the opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Pakistan defeated the Netherlands by 3 wickets.

The match was held at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo Sri Lanka.

Pakistan had won the toss and elected to field first.

The Netherlands posted 147 runs setting a competitive target.

Pakistan chased it down scoring 148 runs losing seven wickets in 19.3 overs with just three balls to spare.

The win gives Pakistan an early boost in the group stage as the tournament progresses.

Later today at 3:15 PM NST West Indies will face Scotland at Eden Gardens in India.

At 7:15 PM hosts India will play against the United States at the Wankhede Stadium Mumbai.

The World Cup matches are being hosted in India and Sri Lanka.

A total of 20 teams are participating in the tournament divided into four groups. Group A includes India Pakistan the United States Namibia and the Netherlands.

Group B consists of Australia Sri Lanka Zimbabwe Ireland and Oman. Group C features Nepal England West Indies Scotland and Italy.

Group D includes South Africa New Zealand Afghanistan the United Arab Emirates and Canada.

Nepal will play its opening match against England tomorrow 8 February at 3:15 PM at the Wankhede Stadium.
