Nepal’s Global Diaspora NRNA Achieves Unity

Nepal’s global diaspora network, the Non-Resident Nepali Association, the NRNA, has long been influential, yet internally divided. Today in Kathmandu, those divisions formally ended.

At the Office of the Prime Minister, Dr. Badri KC and Mahesh Shrestha signed a grand unity agreement in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel.

Prime Minister Karki called the moment “a milestone for Nepalis abroad,” urging the diaspora to carry a shared identity and to channel their knowledge, skills, and investment back into Nepal.

Minister Kharel stressed that unity must extend beyond the signatures — urging the NRNA to rise above party politics and establish itself as a truly global, non-partisan institution.

Both Dr. KC and President Shrestha said the agreement gives the organisation renewed purpose. A united NRNA, they said, can better mobilize Nepali talent and capital across the world to support Nepal’s development.

A divided diaspora has found common ground — and Nepal, watching closely, hopes this unity will last.
