New Enrollments Surge in KMC’S Community School
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has seen a notable rise in the number of new children enrolling in community schools for the upcoming academic session compared to previous years.
On the occasion of Saraswati Puja, a total of 1,115 new children began their literacy initiation (Aksharārambha) at community schools across Kathmandu Metropolitan City, informed Keshav Gyawali, Acting Chief of the Education Department of the Metropolitan City.
According to him, 144 more children began their literacy initiation this year compared to last year.
Among the 1,115 children, 525 are girls and 590 are boys.
Last year, on the same day, 971 children had started their literacy initiation.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has 87 community schools.
However, schools located inside prisons do not have early childhood development classes (ICD), while the remaining schools do.
Among the schools with the highest number of new students, Gyanodaya Secondary School in Bafal recorded 87 enrollments, Nilbarahi Secondary School in Tinkheswor had 50, and Bhanu Secondary School in Ranipokhari had 42.
The increase in enrollment in early childhood development classes is attributed to the municipality’s decision to manage facilitators based on student numbers, enhancing child-centered learning and attracting more children to these classes.
Acting Chief Gyawali added that arrangements have been made for classrooms if the children who began their literacy initiation wish to attend regular school.
Enrollment for regular classes will take place in April/May. (RSS)
