Nepals’s Supreme Court Resumes Full Service Starting Today

The Supreme Court of Nepal is resuming its regular full services from today. The regular legal proceedings at the country’s apex court were disrupted following the incidents of arson and vandalism carried out on September 9th.

This left the legal professionals unable to carry out their daily duties with service seekers affected. Only urgent petitions and habeas corpus applications were accepted in the aftermath of arson and vandalism.

However, the Supreme Court authorities are restoring the affected judicial services including the filing of writ petitions and the resumption of hearings from today.

Spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala says that the Apex Court is resuming full-fledged operations including the registration of all types of writ petitions, continuation of hearing procedures and the acceptance of petitions under Sections 157, 73, 137 and 155.

Out of 24 thousand legal files stored, 20 thousand were set on fire destroying the legal evidences and causing long-term disruption to the court’s information systems.

Prior to the September 9 incident, the apex court maintained an online system providing daily and weekly updates on case registrations and hearing schedules.

A total of 23 courts across the country including the Kathmandu District Court were also damaged during Gen-Z demonstrations.
