Nepal’s Thapa Makes History at IBA Men’s Boxing Championship, Earns USD 75,000

Nepal’s Chandrabahadur Thapa has created history by winning a bronze medal in the 54-kilogram category at the IBA Men’s World Boxing Championship 2025.
Returning home on Sunday, Thapa was given a warm reception at Tribhuvan International Airport by officials of the Nepal Boxing Federation, coaches, and supporters.
The championship, held in Dubai from December 3 to 14, saw Thapa defeat boxers from Indonesia, Armenia, and Iran before falling in the semifinals.
Along with the bronze medal, he earned seventy-five thousand US dollars in prize money marking a major milestone for Nepali boxing ahead of the 2026 Asian Games and Olympic qualifiers.
