Nepal’s Major Roads Blocked Amid Severe Weather

Continuous heavy rain and snowfall have severely disrupted road travel across Nepal, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and authorities working to restore access on key highways.
In western Nepal, the Mid-Hill Highway in Rukum Purba, particularly the Bhume–Patihalna section, has been blocked by persistent snowfall since last night.
At least 7 buses, 1 jeep, and 5 motorcycles remain stranded, trapping over 250 passengers. Poor weather and disrupted phone services have complicated rescue operations, though local authorities are coordinating evacuations with municipal offices.
In the central region, heavy rainfall has turned roads muddy and slippery, blocking the Narayanghat–Butwal route at Daunne Bazaar, Nawalparasi Purba.
Large cargo vehicles are restricted at night along the Dumkibas–Daunne–Bardghat stretch, while passenger and emergency vehicles are allowed to pass with priority.
Meanwhile, the BP Highway in Kavrepalanchok, eastern-central Nepal, was temporarily submerged after the Roshi River overflowed due to relentless rain.
Vehicles were held at Dhulikhel Chowk until repairs restored road access.
Additional disruptions have been reported on the East–West Highway, where landslides and waterlogging have affected several low-lying Terai sections, while other Mid-Hill Highway stretches in Rolpa, Pyuthan, Chitwan, and Makwanpur face local flooding and minor landslides.
Authorities have urged travelers to avoid non-essential journeys, follow official traffic updates, and exercise extreme caution.
Rescue teams are actively working to evacuate stranded passengers and clear blocked roads, but adverse weather is expected to persist.
