Nepal’s First Woman Economist Acharya No More

Nepal’s first woman economist Dr. Meena Acharya passed away at the age of 88 on Thursday.

Four decades ago, Dr. Acharya led Nepal’s first private think tank, the Institute for Integrated Development Studies, making significant contributions to economic research and policy studies.

Her work in development economics, gender equality, rural development and policy analysis has been widely used as reference material both in Nepal and internationally.

She served as the first female director of Nepal Rastra Bank.

Acharya is the daughter of former Prime Minister late Tanka Prasad Acharya.
