Nepal’s Farmers Suffer as Unseasonal Rains Hit Harvest Period
Farmers across Nepal are facing a devastating blow as their ready-to-harvest crops have been soaked and ruined by unseasonal rains.
Rice fields, which were ripe for harvest, have been flooded, causing grain loss and damaging crop quality.
The excessive rainfall has led to flooded fields, with crops like rice, which were almost ready for harvesting, now submerged or washed away.

The Ministry of Agriculture predicts a decline in rice production this year, as the rains have interfered with both the harvesting and maturation phases of the crop.
The damage is not limited to rice, as vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, and chilies are also being impacted by the rains that have increased the spread of pests and diseases, further threatening yields.
High-altitude regions like Manang and Mustang, known for their apple cultivation, are also facing reduced yields and declining fruit quality due to the unusual weather patterns.
Experts are warning that climate change is making farming in Nepal increasingly unpredictable, urging farmers to adopt more resilient agricultural practices.
