Nepal’s Election Commission Expands Polling Infrastructure

Nepal is expanding its polling infrastructure ahead of its upcoming parliamentary elections, scheduled for March 5.
Nepal’s Election Commission has announced a significant increase in polling centers as the number of registered voters continues to rise.
Ten thousand nine hundred sixty-seven new polling centres have been added across the country.
Under Nepali law, each centre must serve roughly 1,064 voters.
This expansion brings the total number of polling centres to 33,194, up from just over twenty-two thousand.
The Commission also says it has scrapped 93 polling sites and added 75 others, especially in remote Himalayan regions where winter snowfall has already forced communities to move to lower settlements.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s Home Ministry is preparing to deploy an expanded force of 132,000 temporary police to secure the polls. Recruitment will begin once local authorities confirm the final list of polling locations.
Authorities say both the logistical adjustments and the security buildup aim to ensure smooth voting in one of South Asia’s most challenging terrains.
