Nepal Suffers Five-wicket Loss to UAE

Nepal suffered a 5-wicket loss to the UAE in a crucial ICC CWC League 2 fixture. Weak batting and ordinary bowling performance did not help Nepal as the UAE chased the moderate target of 234 runs with 39 balls to spare at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai.

Nepal after winning the toss opted to bat first but only skipper Rohit Poudel, who scored his second ODI century, looked comfortable at the center in the first inning.

Despite a good start opener Asif Sheikh 35 and his elder brother Arif Sheikh 27 did not capitalize. Dipendra Singh Airee who started promisingly in a much needed situation was unnecessarily run out for 23 in the otherwise sorry looking scorecard for Nepal.

Zahid Ali took four wickets for the UAE while Junaid Siddique picked three wickets to restrict Nepal.

In reply UAE started with a bang scoring 63 runs in 8 overs before losing opener Alisan Sharafu who made 45 runs while his partner Aryansh Sharma missed his century by two runs.

UAE eased to the target in 43.3 overs for the loss of five wickets.

With today’s win UAE has secured its fourth win in the League 2 though languishes at the bottom after having played 18 matches.

Nepal on the other hand is one spot above in the 8-team tournament and with 5 wins.
