Nepal Sets Sights on Double-Digit Medal Haul at Asian Games

Nepal has entered the final phase of preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Japan’s Aichi-Nagoya, with 136 athletes undergoing intensive closed training.

Nepal will compete in 22 sports, including women’s volleyball, men’s cricket and kabaddi in the sports jamboree scheduled to be held from September 19 to October 4.

Athletes in several disciplines are also receiving specialized training in China, South Korea, India and Thailand.

Nepal won one silver and one bronze medal at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.

This time, the National Sports Council has set an ambitious target of double-digit medals, including gold.

A total of 217 athletes, coaches and officials are expected to travel to Japan, with preparations continuing despite concerns over limited funding, sports science and training facilities.
