Nepal PM Highlights Spending Cuts at 100-Day Milestone

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the government has taken concrete steps to control unnecessary expenditure and strengthen financial good governance during its first 100 days in office.

Addressing the nation on the completion of 100 days of the government formed on September 11 following the Gen Z movement, the Prime Minister stated that public funds have been protected by cutting unauthorized and unwarranted facilities enjoyed by some individuals both while in office and even after retirement.

She said that 500 security personnel and vehicles deployed against established standards have been withdrawn and reassigned to public service.

According to the Prime Minister, 38 unnecessary offices have been abolished and 323 sanctioned posts eliminated, reducing the state’s financial burden.

Prime Minister Karki further noted that a budget worth Rs 119 billion, around 820 million USD has been reprioritized and redirected toward major development projects.

The Prime Minister further added that an “Integrated Business Revival Plan” has been implemented to support struggling entrepreneurs.

Highlighting service delivery improvements, the Prime Minister said that more than 50,000 public complaints have been addressed through the “Hello Government” platform.

The executive head of the government also claimed that the daily supply of 200 million liters of Melamchi water has been ensured in Kathmandu, while an additional 101 megawatts of electricity has been added to the national transmission line.
