Nepal in UNGA: Foreign Minister Khanal Continues Bilateral Meetings

Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal held a bilateral meeting with Juraj Blanár, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic.

On the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between Nepal and Slovakia as well as various matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, both ministers exchanged views on strengthening the existing friendly relations and expanding cooperation in areas of common benefit.

Foreign Minister Khanal has been holding bilateral meetings with counterparts from various countries during the Assembly, discussing Nepal’s priorities, bilateral relations, and contemporary regional and international issues.

Foreign Minister Khanal Holds Talks With Maldivian Foreign Mnister Adam

Foreign Minister Khanal also held a bilateral meeting with Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam.

At the meeting in New York, Minister Khanal expressed heartfelt gratitude for the condolences, solidarity, and humanitarian assistance extended by the Maldivian government and people following the recent devastating floods in Nepal.

The two foreign ministers exchanged views on Nepal–Maldives bilateral relations, regional matters, and multilateral issues.

They discussed ways to strengthen ties through high-level visits and expanded cooperation in tourism, employment, and education.

Both ministers emphasized the need to make collaboration between Nepal and the Maldives more effective in areas of mutual interest and concern, such as climate change, mobilization of financial resources for development, and sustainable development.

They also discussed continuing cooperation and coordination on matters of common interest at multilateral forums including the United Nations and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Additionally, on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Allison Hooker, paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Khanal.

The meeting covered various aspects of Nepal–U.S. relations, as well as relief and reconstruction efforts in areas affected by the recent Bhotekoshi floods.

Both sides exchanged views on the ongoing U.S. support for Nepal’s post-disaster rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts, and on continuing such cooperation in the future.

They underlined the importance of further strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between Nepal and the United States, particularly in disaster management and reconstruction.
