Nepal Government Recalls Ambassadors from 11 Countries

The Government of Nepal has decided to recall its ambassadors from 11 countries. Following a decision made during Thursday’s meeting of the Council of Ministers, the resident envoys being recalled are that of China, Germany, Israel, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel shared that Prof Dr Krishna Prasad Oli, Nepali Ambassador to China, Dr Shail Rupakheti to Germany, Professor Dhan Prasad Pandit to Israel, Dr Netra Prasad Timilsina to Malaysia, Ramesh Chandra Poudel to Qatar, Jung Bahadur Chauhan to Russia, Naresh Bikram Dhakal to Saudi Arabia, Sanil Nepal to Spain, Chandra Kumar Ghimire to the United Kingdom, Lokdarshan Regmi to the United States and Dr Durga Bahadur Subedi to Japan are being recalled.

The ambassadors have been instructed to return Nepal in three weeks.

The Council of Ministers also approved the acceptance of a  10 million US Dollar grant from the World Bank’s Multidonor Trust Fund to support the Public Finance Management Project. In the energy sector, the government has decided to establish two joint venture companies in collaboration with India’s Power Grid Corporation Limited and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for the construction of the Inaruwa–Purnia and Dodhara–Bareli 400 kv cross-border transmission lines.

The cabinet also approved the Mutual Legal Aid Treaty between Nepal and India and authorized the government to propose similar agreements with other countries as needed through diplomatic channels. Other decisions of the government are approval of the master plan for the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground Project in Kirtipur declaring it a national priority project.

The government has also decided to invite bids for the remaining construction work and proceed with the procurement process.
