Nepal Finalizes Security Plan for March 5 Election

Nepal has begun finalizing security arrangements for the upcoming March 5 House of Representatives election.
The authorities are preparing to confirm polling centers and determine the number of temporary police personnel required to ensure safe and orderly voting.
Nepal Police says a detailed assessment is underway to estimate security needs across the country.
With the addition of new voters and expanded polling locations, police officials anticipate the deployment of approximately 132 thousand temporary police personnel.
These temporary recruits, appointed in coordination with the Election Commission, will receive basic salary equivalent to police constables for a period of 40 days, along with uniforms, transportation allowances, and other essential benefits.
Nepal Police also plans to mobilize more than 71 thousand regular officers nationwide for election duties.
Once the Election Commission finalizes the official list of polling centers, district security committees will swiftly begin the recruitment process for temporary police, prioritizing security sensitivity across regions. The Central Security Committee has devised a three-phase security plan covering the pre-election period, election day, and the post-election phase.
