Nepal Election Commission Extends Deadline for Parties to Register

Nepal’s Election Commission has extended the deadline for political parties to register for the upcoming House of Representatives elections, now scheduled for March 5.

The four-day extension pushes the deadline to 30 November, following requests from stakeholders and a surge in last-minute applications.

Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai has said registration is mandatory for participation, and both major parties including the Nepali Congress and UML, as well as emerging groups, are filing applications.

So far, 106 parties have registered specifically for the election, out of 137 officially recognized nationwide. More than 25 additional parties have already submitted requests and are awaiting approval.

The Commission had originally set the registration window to close on December 10.
