Monsoon Begins to Retreat in Nepal as Western Regions See Full Withdrawal

Nepal’s annual monsoon has begun withdrawing from the country, with the system now fully retreating from western parts of Sudurpaschim, Karnali and Lumbini provinces.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division says monsoonal winds continue to influence central and eastern Nepal, but the system is weakening and is expected to withdraw from the remaining areas within the next few days.
Nepal’s monsoon normally arrives around June 13 and retreats by October 2, although the dates can vary from year to year. This year, the monsoon entered Nepal on June 19, six days later than the usual date.
The weather department had earlier warned that a low-pressure system developing around the Bay of Bengal could delay the monsoon’s withdrawal.
Authorities have urged people to remain alert, saying the end of the monsoon does not mean an immediate end to rainfall. Western winds could still trigger rain in parts of the country as the monsoon gradually retreats.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division says it is continuing to monitor the withdrawal process and the possible influence of western weather systems.
