India Election: Massive Bihar Win for Modi–Nitish NDA

The Nitish Kumar–led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has returned to power in Indian State of Bihar with a sweeping victory, winning 202 of 243 seats in the State Assembly elections held between November 6-11, 2025.

The alliance secured a 46.7% vote share, while the opposition Mahagathbandhan managed 37.5%.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85. Other NDA partners LJP (RV), HAM (S) and RLM won 19, 5 and 4 seats respectively.

The Mahagathbandhan suffered a severe setback, winning only 35 seats, including 25 for the RJD and 6 for Congress.

The AIMIM secured five seats.

Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party failed to win any.

Vote-share trends showed a competitive race: BJP at 20.84%, JD(U) at 18.85%, LJP(RV) at 5.06%, while within the opposition RJD led with 22.69%.

Counting began under tight security across 243 constituencies, using 4,372 tables and more than 18,000 counting agents.

Most exit polls had predicted an NDA victory.

Incumbent Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar, who briefly switched to the RJD–Congress alliance in 2022 before rejoining the NDA in 2024, now returns to power with a commanding mandate. (Agencies)
