Incessant Rain Obstructs Traffic Along Various Highways

Heavy rainfall has led to significant landslides and road blockages across various regions, severely impacting traffic in the country.

Police reported that as of 6:00 am today, major highways and road sections in Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Rasuwa, Rukum West, and Lamjung are affected.

Notably, the BP highway was completely obstructed in Kavrepalanchok due to a landslide early this morning.

To mitigate flood risks, vehicular movement on this highway is restricted from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am, with operations allowed only during day time.

The Mechi highway is entirely blocked in Ilam Municipality due to mudslides, prompting authorities to advise travelers to seek alternative routes.

Additionally, the Araniko highway has faced multiple blockages due to landslides in Sindhupalchok, affecting transport services in several rural municipalities.

The Trishuli-Meilung-Safrubensi road in Rasuwa has also been rendered impassable due to river erosion. In Rukum West, the Bheri Corridor’s Jajarkot-Dolpa section is blocked by landslides, while Lamjung’s Mid Hull Highway is similarly obstructed.

Authorities are actively working to clear the blocked roads and restore traffic flow.

However, the ongoing rainfall raises concerns about further landslides and flooding, prompting police to urge the public to exercise caution while traveling. (RSS)
