Heavy Rain, Landslides Disrupt Roads Across Nepal

Heavy monsoon rains, landslides, road subsidence and erosion have disrupted transport across eastern, central and western Nepal, with several major highways and mountain roads blocked or facing travel restrictions.

Police said roads in eastern Nepal, including the Mid-Hill Highway in Tehrathum and the Mechi Highway in Ilam, have been affected, while the Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok and the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubesi road in the central region have also been disrupted.

In western and northwestern Nepal, transport has been affected along the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West and the Nagma–Gamgadhi road in Mugu, while the Salleri–Lukla road in northeastern Nepal is also facing disruption.

Authorities have restricted all vehicles on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, which connects central Nepal’s Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli districts, from 6pm to 4am because of the risk of flooding.

Traffic on the Kanti Highway has also been banned from 5pm to 5am during the monsoon season.
