Harka Sampang Wins in Sunsari-1

Harka Raj Rai Sampang, the chairman of the Labor Culture Party, has been declared winner from Sunsari-1 in the election for member of House of Representatives.

Sampang received 35,741 votes, while his closest competitor, Goma Tamang of Rastriya Swatantra Party, secured 27,249 votes. He won by a margin of 8,492 votes.

Born in 1983 in Khartamcha, Khotang, Rai entered politics in 2019 A.D. by-election by contesting independently for the mayor of Dharan.

In the 2022 local elections, Rai won as the mayor of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City. After registering the Shram Sanskriti Party, he resigned from the mayoral post to contest as a candidate for the House of Representatives.

Earlier, following the Jenji movement, Sampang had come to Kathmandu with the ambition of becoming Prime Minister. When that did not happen, he registered his party and launched an election campaign declaring himself a future Prime Minister.

Rai, a graduate, has consistently emphasized prioritizing labor culture. As a social activist, Rai gained attention after becoming mayor by working to solve Dharan’s drinking water problem. He is also equally popular on social media.
