Government to Provide Support for Film Sector: Minister Dr Timilsina

Minister for Information and Communication, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has asserted that the government was committed for preservation, promotion and development of films based on theme of art, culture and national importance.

During the meeting with a team of ‘Tiniharu—Elephants in the Fog’, the film representing Nepal in the 99th edition of the world renowned ‘Academy Awards (Oscars) at the Ministry today, Minister Timilsina mentioned that preserving the art sector is the responsibility of the state.

The team comprising producer Anup Poudel, artist Aliz Ghimire, among others expected development of film sector and government’s cooperation and collaboration for promotion of Nepali cinemas in international level.

The Communications Minister clarified that the ministry was ready to provide all necessary support for the development and promotion of overall film sector, adding the government has been moving ahead in a policy-level to encourage film making based on cultural and national importance content.

The government has allocated Rs 35 million grants in the fiscal year 2083/84 to encourage the film sector, he underlined, adding that activities are underway to make Film Bill, which is under consideration in the parliament, strong and implement it. The film ‘Tiniharu’ directed by Abinash Bikram Shah was already awarded in Cannes Film Festival. (RSS)
