Former Delhi CM Kejriwal Cleared in Liquor Scam

An Indian court on February 27 acquitted former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal in a corruption case linked to the alleged liquor scam.

Kejriwal, a critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had denounced the case as a “political conspiracy” by the rival ruling party.

The Rouse Avenue Court on February 27 also discharged senior Manish Sisodia and 21 others in the liquor scam case.

The court noted that the CBI chargesheet contained multiple lacunae and lacked supporting evidence.

“There was no overarching conspiracy or criminal intent in the excise policy,” the court said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had been probing alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the previous Aam Aadmi Party government’s now-scrapped liquor policy. (RSS)
