Explosions in Venezuela’s Capital

Large explosions and the sound of low-flying aircraft were reported early Saturday around 2 a.m. local time in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.

The cause of the explosions remains unclear, while videos circulating on social media show columns of smoke rising from various areas of the city.

People in multiple neighborhoods were seen rushing to the streets following the blasts.

The Venezuelan government has not immediately responded to requests for comment.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, as the U.S. military has recently targeted alleged drug-smuggling operations in nearby waters.

On Friday, Venezuela expressed willingness to negotiate with the United States on combating drug trafficking. (Agencies)
