Education Minister Resigns Over Teacher’s Unabated Protest

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidya Bhattarai has stepped down from her post.

Bhattarai tendered her resignation after a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday, her press coordinator Ramji Lamsal confirmed.

While the exact reasons for her resignation remain undisclosed, the development comes at a critical time, as teachers across the country have been protesting for the past 20 days demanding the immediate enactment of the long-awaited School Education Act.

Despite multiple rounds of dialogue between the government and protest leaders, no substantial agreement has been achieved.

Bhattarai, who assumed office on June 27, 2024, had been facing mounting pressure from various stakeholders to address the education sector’s pressing concerns.

Her resignation adds to the uncertainty surrounding the resolution of the ongoing deadlock.

The government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the resignation.
