EC to Government : Deploy All Tier Security Soon

The Election Commission has decided to request the government to mobilize all security agencies, including the Nepal Army as soon as possible targeting House of Representatives Election.

The Election Commission’s High-Level Security Committee meeting that took place today decided to ensure a secure environment for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

The election to the House of Representatives is scheduled for 5th March, 2026.

Election Commissioner Sagun Shumsher Rana stated that the commission recommended the deployment of the Nepal Army alongside the other three security bodies to boost their confidence and because political parties have set security as one of their main preconditions.

Commissioner Rana also serves as the coordinator of the High-Level Security Committee for the House of Representatives elections.

The committee includes representatives from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, National Investigation Department as well as the Home Ministry, Defense Ministry and the Commission’s secretary among others.

According to Commissioner Rana, the Nepal Army may be deployed to ensure the safety of voters, candidates, polling centers, constituencies and the general public.

Major political parties, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, have emphasized that a secure and fear-free environment is the first condition for conducting the election.

The Election Commission is simultaneously advancing tasks related to management, security, guidelines and procedures for the elections.

The Commission said, since the announcement of election, around 1,05,000 new voters have been added to the list.
